The GILA 4 x 4 MRAP vehicle is a 21st century South African designed Mine Resistant and Ambush Protected vehicle platform launched in 2006 at the Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition. The GILA has a proven ability to survive a mine blast in excess of 14kg of TNT under any of the wheels. The Gila 4x4 provides a high-mobility vehicle platform with an all wheel drive suited for both rural and urban operations. The GILA’s high payload of 3 800 kg and ample interior space has allowed IVEMA to include the following variants: armoured personnel carrier, battlefield ambulance, mortar platform, electronic warfare vehicle, battlefield resupply platform, and command and control vehicle.
IVEMA has supplied four African armed forces with the Gila MRAP patrol vehicle which are now deployed in Darfur under the UN mission. The Gila 4x4 MRAP APC and Battlefield Ambulance variants are now in service with seven armed forces across the African continent.
